Calgary Heritage Roasting Company

Service
Calgary Heritage Roasting Company is built by the wilderness that drives it. We meticulously marry fresh and fragrant coffee with the urge to explore. The company found its inspiration over a percolated cup of coffee on a backpacking trip one morning in the rolling hills of Alberta, Canada. Our methods and mentality were forged from our experiences as wildland firefighters.

Since then, the company's foundation continues to grow and evolve during backyard BBQs, weekend mountain adventures, and late nights under star-filled skies and scotch-filled glasses.

Like our beans, the love grew naturally. Through experimentation and plenty of time, we learned more about the art of coffee roasting. We finally realized we had something special. It's the home-grown, outback, rugged, mountain-fresh, clear skies sort of thing that Alberta is all about.
It's here our story truly begins. Calgary Heritage Roasting Company believes in active collaboration, giving back to the community, and getting back to nature. It’s about time your coffee tasted as wild as you are.

Village Brewery

Some of the best things happen over beer. Ideas are born, friendships forged, deals struck, communities built. That’s how Village Brewery began, friends sharing beers and dreams. Around the table, we had close to a century and a half of brewing experience. One of us was a legendary Canadian brewmaster. Naturally the talk turned to the art and craft of better beer, then to secret sources of malts and hops. By last call we had dreamed up a true community brewery. A brewery that would support Calgary’s artists and craftspeople. A brewery that would create the excellent ales and lagers our friends and neighbors deserve. That talk over beer started the brewery that handcrafted the fine brew you hold in your hand. Please join our table, lift a pint and salute the Village of Calgary. It takes a Village to raise a beer. And a beer to raise a Village.

Communities and Brands in a Mobile-First World

03:00 PM 03:45 PM Cinema 5

Over the last 15 years at Facebook, we have been lucky to work with businesses of all sizes - from the biggest to the smallest. All of these businesses have one thing in common: ideas they want to share with the world.

We believe that there has never been a better time to have a good idea because in our connected world, the distance between a good idea and the people it serves has never been shorter.

So how can businesses build for the future? They must embrace for 4 key shifts shaping our marketplace. These shifts are driving change and unlocking value across businesses, technology, and people.

We call them the 4Cs: Community, Curation, Conversation and Commerce. Embracing these four behaviors is essential to thriving in a connected world. At Facebook, these four “Cs” serve as the foundation upon which we build our products. It's based in our firm belief that we should also build people-first.

Stop thinking about channels; start thinking about people

09:00 AM 09:45 AM Cinema 2

The pressure to drive business objectives, like driving revenue and lowering CAC, keeps marketers so focused on the channels they manage they often fail to realize they are in a rut: a trench they've dug between themselves and their audience.

This presentation will outline how hype and bias work in tandem to cloud a marketer’s ability to market effectively, and subsequently hinder company growth. Drawing from real-world Article examples, Duncan will speak to how marketers can utilize marketing channels to create a frictionless experience, drive business growth and get back to the foundation of good marketing: an intimate understanding of and respect for the audience.

Lessons from The Dark Web

02:00 PM 02:45 PM Cinema 1

2.4 billion personal records were stolen in 2018. At this moment in time we produce more data about ourselves every minute than ever before. Some of it deliberately and in our control; much of it completely behind the scenes. Meanwhile a shadow of the Internet has been built with the idea of producing and storing less data. And it is thriving. You’ve heard it called the “Dark Web.” Today it is associated with drugs, murder, human trafficking and pornography. All of that is true. What’s also true: The principles on which the Dark Web is built apply outside the Dark Web too. Decentralization, liberal application of encryption, automated escrow services to name a few. These might sound complicated, but a big reason the Dark Web has been successful (besides the recession-proof nature of vice) is because it’s also remarkably easy to use. Luckily some companies are bringing products to market that are built this way. Tomorrow our personal information will be harder to get, harder to abuse and more in our control.
